Fire Restrictions in effect for Saguaro National Park

Bottled water no longer for sale in Saguaro National Park
Water bottle filling stations have been installed at both visitor centers and the Rincon Mountain District bike ramada for visitors to refill their reusable water bottles. A variety of BPA-free waterbottles are available inside the visitor centers. More »

Tucson Mountain District (west) road re-opened
The Golden Gate Road has been re-opened north of Sendero-Esperanza and is is now rated for high clearance vehicles due to the rough nature of the terrain. More »
Mammals
Mammalian species are found throughout Saguaro National Park. Mammals are characterized by their fur and the ability to nurse their young with milk from modified sweat glands called mammary glands. Mammals are warm-blooded, or endothermic. Bats, the only flying mammal, are numerous throughout the park, as are bobcats and javelina. |

Buffelgrass burns at 1300-1600 F, hot enough to melt aluminum and the fire can travel near the speed of the wind. Even in moderate weather, it can travel at 2-3 mph with 12-18 ft flame lengths, making it a real threat to the lives of firefighters
