San Antonio Missions to Benefit from President’s $3 billion in Budget Requests for National Park Service
The National Park Service (NPS) announced yesterday that President Obama&#’;stional Park Service (NPS) announced yesterday that President Obama’s budget request for fiscal year 2016 – the centennial year of the NPS – includes $3 billion for the agency’s critical conservation, preservation, and recreation mission. The budget request boosts essential programs and operational needs by $432.9 million.

San Antonio Hosts World Heritage Nomination Evaluator
Last week, the advisory committee for the San Antonio Missions World Heritage nomination hosted an on-site evaluator from the International Committee on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the President of the US Chapter of ICOMOS Jan Anderson. ICOMOS is an international network of heritage professionals with wide ranging expertise in historic preservation and plays a major role in advising the World Heritage Committee.

Notice of Availability of the Finding of No Significant Impact for the Environmental Assessment to Enhance Visitor Services and Rehabilitate the Cultural Landscape at Rancho de las Cabras
The National Park Service (NPS) has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) to complete the Environmental Assessment (EA) that analyzed a proposal to rehabilitate the cultural landscape and further develop visitor services at the Rancho de las Cabras.

Tourism to San Antonio Missions National Historical Park Creates
A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 614,810 visitors to San Antonio Missions National Historical Park in 2012 spent over $33 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 480 jobs in the local area.

More than 500 San Antonio Area High School Students Benefit from an “America’s Best Idea” Grant
Grant funds were used to support the education program, aptly named Mission R.E.A.C.H. (Recreation, Education, and Celebrating History). The program aimed to engage area high school seniors in a half-day activity-filled program bringing them to their local national park to help instill life-long stewardship of park resources.

World Heritage Week at the San Antonio Missions Starts April 27
San Antonio and Bexar County will be celebrating “World Heritage Week” from April 27-May 4. While there will be many activities throughout the week, the Missions of San Antonio World Heritage Advisory Committee is looking to enlist 25,000 supporters during the week.
