Beginning Monday, June 1, the portion of scenic Howland Hill Road through Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park will be closed to all vehicle traffic on week days for annual maintenance of the road. This maintenance work is anticipated to take approximately two weeks and the road work is scheduled to be completed by June 12 or sooner. The road will be open on weekends.

It is necessary to close this narrow, gravel roadway to all public vehicle traffic for visitor safety, protection of the resources and efficiency.Locked gates at each end of the roadway will block access for vehicles. Visitors may enter the area on foot but should use caution, especially in the vicinity of equipment.Do not block gates when parking at either end of the road.

Alternatives scenic drives for exploring the beautiful old-growth forests and coast views of Redwood National and State Parks include:Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway, Requa Road to the Klamath River Overlook, Bald Hills Road, and Hwy. 199. Please stop by any Redwood National and State Parks visitor center for maps or learn more at the park website:www.nps.gov/redw.
