At approximately 12:10 pm today, an individual fisherman was swept out to sea off of Point Reyes Beach North while fishing by himself. Several eye witnesses said a wave knocked down the fisherman's ice chest and dragged it out into the ocean. The fisherman went in after the ice chest and was quickly overcome by waves. The National Park Service and Henry 1 rescue helicopter from Sonoma County recovered the body shortly thereafter, but the individual was already deceased.

No further information is available at this time. The National Park Service is leading the investigation and working with the Marin County Coroner's Office to identify the body and notify family.
