A campsite containing a couple small tents, a picnic table, and a food storage locker surrounded by shrubs.

Park Superintendent Cicely Muldoon announced that beginning on February 22, 2012, visitors will be able to make online reservations for backcountry and boat-in campsites in the Seashore. "We are excited about providing better access and technological improvements to the park reservation system and to the public."

Visitors will be able to make reservations online at www.recreation.gov

Fees will be $20.00 for an individual site accommodating 1-6 people; $40.00 for a small group site for 7-14 people; and $50.00 for a large group site for 15-25 people. Since 2005, those fees were $15, $30, and $40 respectively.

Service for campers will improve by moving the three-month window of reservation currently used, to six months.

Advance reservations will no longer be accepted at Bear Valley Visitor Center, though walk-in permits will be sold each day, and campers will still need to pick up their permits on the day of their trip at the Bear Valley Visitor Center.
