Explore, learn, protect. This is the motto of a Junior Ranger. But what is a Junior Ranger? Junior Rangers discover the wonders of wildlife-watching, hike along a variety of trails, build sand castles, watch for whales, seals and sea lions, discover the lighthouse, or check out our visitor centers. They learn about the park's history, plants, animals and people, and swear to cherish and protect the park long after their visit. Young kids to those who are young at heart are welcome to join the Junior Ranger Program.

How do I become a Junior Ranger?

The cover of the Point Reyes National Seashore Junior Seashore Ranger booklet, featuring a cartoon of a sea lion and a rockfish swimming among kelp.

Pick up a Point Reyes Junior Seashore Ranger activity booklet at one of our visitor centers and complete the age-appropriate section of the booklet. Explore the history of the Coast Miwok people, study the park's marine life (such as elephant seals and gray whales), or learn about the Point Reyes Lighthouse and maritime history. When finished, stop by one of the visitor centers to receive a Junior Ranger badge.

Don't have enough time to finish the book while you are in the park? No problem! Scan, or take photos of your completed pages, and contact us. We will reply with instructions for submitting the scan or photos. Please include your name and current mailing address in the body of the email.

A ranger will check your work and mail you a badge!
