The Washington Monument

Welcome to National Mall and Memorial Parks!

National Mall and Memorial Parks helps preserve President George Washington's vision for a great Federal City on the Potomac River. Federal parkland envisioned in 1791 by city planner Peter L'Enfant and brought to fruition by District Commissioners and L'Enfant's successor Andrew Ellicott still dominates the city center. The park encompasses more than one thousand acres and includes the original Mall area itself; many of the uptown circles, squares, and triangular parcels of land; and the later additions of East and West Potomac Parks.

We invite you to explore this national treasure by participating in all of our park rangers' interpretive programs, walking tours, and bike tours. Click on the "Things To Do" section above to view an updated calendar of all interpretive program options. Beyond these special programs, the park staff offers daily interpretive programs every hour on the hour from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, World War II Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, and Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
