Environmental Factors

Geologic map of Park
Geologic map of Woodstock

Ecosystems are impacted by living organisms like plants, animals, and people but also by nonliving physical and chemical factors such water and soil chemistry, climate, and the weather. These nonliving, or abiotic, components of an ecosystem help to shape what habitats will dominate an area and also what plant and animal species will live there. Throughout the park, monitoring of these abiotic features is an important part in protecting the natural integrity of the area.
