The purpose of Lake Meredith National Recreation Area is to provide the public access to diverse land and water-based recreational opportunities in the Canadian River Breaks of the Texas Panhandle. Lake Meredith is a protected recreation area because of the scenic, scientific, and cultural resources that contribute to public enjoyment.

Lake Meredith consists of 44,978 acres of federally owned land and is one of the largest areas of land in the Panhandle. For generations, Lake Meredith has been a favorite destination for year-round fun. Lake Meredith is a top National Park Service birding site and has been listed in the top 25 areas of NPS.

Suggested Day Activities:

• Take a hike along the beautiful Harbor Bay Trail
• Attend a ranger-led activity (Dates will be announced)
• Take a scenic drive around the lake
• Fish along the shoreline
• Swim at Spring Canyon swimming area
• Kayak at Harbor Bay or Spring Canyon
• Watch the fantastic sunsets at Blue West
• Watch Wildlife at Spring Canyon
• Birding at the Spring Canyon Birdwalk

Suggested activities for a few days:

• Camp at one of our campgrounds with a variety of habitats
• Hike along the shoreline of the lake along the South Turkey Creek Trail
• Hunt or fish --(check with Park Headquarters for regulations, seasons and limits)
