My interest in history began when I was 8 with my first visit to Harpers Ferry and other parks in the area. My interest in history soon turned into a passion and then a hobby. Living in this area all of my life proved to be a great advantage, I was surrounded by history. I started with Civil War living history when I was 16, it was then that I realized that I love sharing history with the public.

I returned to Harpers Ferry in the winter of 2005 to volunteer for the Christmas program. While here I learned of the intern program the park has, I saw it as a great opportunity for a start in my public history career. Needless to say, my summer here has been much more than a start towards my career. Working here this summer presented me with opportunities I would not have been given anywhere else. I was able to staff and interpret more than 10 exhibits ranging from a dry goods store to a blacksmith shop. I was able to research the history and the stories of Harpers Ferry and the surrounding areas. I interpreted to hundreds of visitors from all over the world. I also worked with great people who share the same passions that I do; as well as making many new friendships that will last a life time. My experience here at Harpers Ferry has been a one of a kind opportunity and one that I will never forget.
