Your Park! Your Health!

The Your Park! Your Health! Internship Team in Gateway National Recreation Area offers outdoor summer adventures for New Yorkers of all ages. Activities are geared to promote fitness, fun and learning through exploration of natural and historic sites in Jamaica Bay.

Read further for information and instructions on how to reserve your spot on Let's Go Camping! or Let's Go Biking! programs.

Let's Go Camping!

Reservations are required. Your spot will be held on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each reservation is limited to a group of six or fewer people.

Lets Go Camping! overnights at Floyd Bennett Field are offered on the following weekends: July 19 - 20 and August 16 - 17.

Lets Go Camping! overnight at Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island is offered on the weekend of July 12 - 13.

Each program is structured as a participatory group experience and may include outdoor games, bicycling, night hikes, compass skills, meal preparation and campfire activities.

Campers are encouraged to bring their own favorite snack, dinner and breakfast items. Fresh drinking water will be provided on-site. Outdoor cooking stoves or grills are available for shared use. Please feel free to be creative when considering healthy meal items to bring. Keep in mind though, that campers are required to pack out any packaging or food waste brought in. Think light and healthy ~ For You and for the Environment!

Tents, sleeping pads and insect repellent will be provided. Campers are required to bring their own eating utensils, water bottle, flashlight, sleeping bag or blanket, and pillow,.

Bathrooms are near the campsite - No showers are available at Floyd Bennett Field. Showers will be available on-site at the new (and lovely!) Fort Wadsworth campground.

Upon submission of the completed Reservation Form, you will receive a confirmation email with mta / driving directions and more detailed information about Let's Go Camping!

Your reservation is not confirmed until you receive an email response from us!

If you would like to camp on more than one weekend, please indicate the date(s) of interest in the box provided near the bottom of the reservation form. We will notify you if there is availability.

Family groups must consist of at least one responsible adult per every four children.

Pets are not permitted in the campgrounds.

Cancellation Policy: Lets Go Camping activities happen rain or shine! We will attempt to notify you in advance should an extreme weather forecast require cancellation.

Let's Go Biking!

Reservations are required. Your spot will be held on a first-come, first-serve basis. We have a small fleet of 26" single-speed beach cruiser bicycles. All have foot brakes and easy-adjust seats. They are sized for children and adults approximately 5' or taller. Bike helmets are provided.

Riders are required to bring their own backpack containing water and snacks. For your safety and ease, close-toed shoes suggested. Bring a bathing suit and towel if you'd like to go for a swim at Riis Beach!

Let's Go Biking rides begin and finish at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. They follow a bike path that requires low interaction with car traffic.

There must be one responsible adult guardian for every three children who sign up to ride. Children should be age ten or older to participate.
