Hotels and Camping grounds for Williston, ND can be found at the Williston Convention and Visitor Bureau and Hotels and Campgrounds for Sidney, MT can be found at the Sidney Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture.

There is no camping or overnight parking available at Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site, primitive camping is available at Fort Buford State Historic Site, about two miles to the east of Fort Union.

During George Catlin's trip up the Missouri River in 1832 he visited Fort Union Trading Post and the Knife River Indian Villages. On this trip he put to pen the idea which became the inspiration for the National Park System.
