Contract Awarded for Willett Center

Superintendent Michael Caldwell announced the $3.4 million Willett Center construction contract award to Structural Associates, Inc. of Watertown, New York. Structural Associates, Inc., a multi-disciplined firm, with corporate offices in Syracuse, New York, will undertake the construction of the 13,700 square foot Willett Center utilizing several local and regional subcontractors. The Willett Center will provide visitor education and interpretation activities as well as museum collections space for the over 400,000 artifacts in the park's possession. Construction preparation activities will start in October with actual ground construction to begin in Spring 2004 as weather and site conditions permit. The construction contract will be eighteen months. Upon building construction completion, interpretative exhibits will be installed and the museum collections will be relocated. The opening of the Marinus Willett Center is scheduled for May 2005. |

Fort Stanwix has two names. Named for Gen. John Stanwix, this was the fort's name under the British. When rebuilt by the Americans, it was then named for Gen. Phillip Schuyler.
