Discovering Fort Smith - Grades 5-12
Students working in groups using the exhibits students will research and present their finding about in the historic jails, Us Deputy Marshals, Judge Isaac C. Parker and his courtroom, and events that shaped in Fort Smith.
This program was developed using Commmon Core standards and has been tested
If you have a small class or you do not want the class to work in groups you have two options. Send the students on a Solo Expedition (grades 5 - 12) or use the talking points.

Did You Know?
A woman was responsible for the building of a modern federal jail at Fort Smith, AR, in 1888. Anna Dawes, daughter of Sen. Dawes of MA, visited the "Hell on the Border" jail in 1885 and wrote an article describing its conditions. When read in Congress, money was quickly approved for a new jail.
