Seismic Geyser was born in the earthquake’s aftermath. The overlying sinter cracked during the quake and subsequently became the site of a steam vent. Activity continued to increase until, by 1966, Seismic had become a full-fledged geyser with eruptions reaching up to 75 feet (23 m) high. In 1971 a hydrothermal explosion opened a small neighboring crater and Seismic began to decline. Its last true eruption occurred in 1974.
