  • Earthquakes are sudden movements in the Earth’s surface that create cracks or fractures. A tectonic quake is usually caused by the movement of rocks along a fault, while a volcanic quake indicates that magma, hydrothermal fluids, or gases are moving. Both types of earthquakes occur in the Yellowstone region.
