Visitor safety is an important part of managing a national park.  As these places are often not developed and offer opportunities to explore the wildernes, they also pose a risk for those who venture into areas they may not be familiar with. 

An essential part of park functions include responding to requests for assistance by lost or sometimes injured visitors.  Law enforcement rangers regularly conduct Search and Rescue (SAR) operations that task park manpower and resources. These public safety services are vital to visitors in the park and nearby communities. 

In the vast wilderness of the Everglades, the SAR operations are often conducted in remote areas accessible by boat or aircraft.

Donations to this program go either directly to enhancing the parks ability to respond quickly and effectively to these situations with necessary supplies and manpower essential to complete these operations safely, or to educate the community and visitors on  the importance of planning and safety when exploring the vast wilderness of Everglades National Park.
