Job Title: Interpretive Program Presenter

Location: Campgrounds and trails throughout the park

Project Duration: Ongoing

Hours Per Week: Part-time or full-time (32 hours), Sun-Sat

Hours Per Month: Flexible


Description of Duties: Many visitors enjoy learning about the cultural and natural history of the park by attending interpretive programs presented by knowledgeable staff members. Provide personal interpretive services to visitors by presenting thematic programs including, but not limited to, illustrated talks, off-trail hikes, and guided walks, boat tours, and tram rides. Conduct roving interpretation on park trails, making contact with park visitors, providing information about park resources, and answering visitor questions.


Benefits: Volunteers will exercise their creativity by producing programs based on their personal areas of interest. Volunteers will also gain experience in public speaking and interpretation and will have the opportunity to talk with people from all over the world. Two weeks of training on park habitats, wildlife, plant life and conservation issues will be provided. A uniform will also be provided. Housing or RV sites are available for this position on a limited basis.


Goal/Outcome of Position: To connect the visitor to the park experience by increasing the visitor’s knowledge and understanding of the ecosystem and its history.


Knowledge/Skills/Experience Desired: Enjoy working with the public. Have knowledge of or willingness to learn about park natural and cultural resources. Have ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages. Be able to remain calm and courteous during occasional hectic and emergency situations.
