Job Title: Florida Bay Docent

Location: Locations throughout Florida Bay

Project Duration: Ongoing

Hours Per Week: Flexible, Sun-Sat

Hours Per Month: Flexible


Description of Duties: Everglades National Park encompasses 1.5 million acres of wilderness. Florida Bay makes up almost half a million acres of that area. Many visitors boat through this portion of the park without making contact with any park employees or information. Help visitors have a safe and enjoyable backcountry experience by staffing a park information boat in high-traffic areas, removing exotic species, and erecting buoys and markers.


Benefits: Volunteers will spend their days boating in beautiful Florida Bay. In addition, volunteers will be able to explore many areas of the park and will meet people from around the world.

Goal/Outcome of Position: To enhance visitor understanding of the park and park resources, increase park presence in Florida Bay, and provide a safe and enjoyable backcountry experience for visitors. To assist park staff in protecting park resources.


Knowledge/Skills/Experience Desired: The volunteer needs boating and navigational skills. Have knowledge of or willingness to learn about park natural and cultural resources.
