Denali Transitions to Winter

The Denali Park Road has closed for the winter at Mile 3 (Park Headquarters). In spite of some new snow last week, snow cover is currently marginal for winter recreational activities such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, mushing, or ski-joring. In anticipation of more snow, the winter trailhead has been established at the headquarters gate, and parking for visitors is available in the adjacent lot. Visitors are advised to call for updated conditions and weather information. |
Did You Know?
Recent climate warming has affected Denali in ways that are readily apparent, such as reduced spring snowfall, earlier snowmelt, earlier green-up and thawing of permanent snowfields. Subarctic ecosystems, like Denali, are extremely sensitive to climate variability and change.
