  • Visitor Center Operating Hours Notification

    The City of Rocks Visitor Center will be closed May 21 & 22 for an All-Employee Orientation. The visitor center will reopen May 23 and operate from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 7 days a week (including holidays) through October.

Our Junior Ranger Program is designed to help you and your family enjoy the reserve, as well as help the rangers protect its features. Being a Junior Ranger means more than just knowing about the nature and history of the area. Junior Rangers must help protect the area by obeying the rules and caring for the wildlife and special features of City of Rocks.

Junior Ranger Pledge:

  • Enjoy nature without picking plants or injuring wildlife
  • Help keep our reserve clean and free of litter
  • Only climb where you can safely climb down
  • Be a positive example for other park visitors
  • Explore the wonders of City of Rocks
  • Invite others to visit City of Rocks National Reserve

Did You Know?

The Twin Sisters in City of Rocks National Reserve are made up of different rocks. The darker sister is made of granite that is 2.5 billion years old and is some of the oldest rock in the Lower 48 states. The lighter sister is made of granite from a younger formation that is 25 million years old.
