Chickasaw National Recreation Area is unique among national parks, as an agreement between the U.S. Government and American Indians first established the park. The U.S. Government paid the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations $20 per acre for 640 acres in 1902 and $60 per acre for additional lands in 1904.
