This trail provides spectacular overlook views of Pueblo Bonito and the other Chacoan buildings, enters Pueblo Alto and New Alto, passes by Chacoan stairs, ramps, and roads, and affords panoramic views of the San Juan Basin. This is an excellent introduction to the scope of the Chaco world.

Archeologist Patricia Crown discovered evidence of cacao in a cylinder jar from Chaco! This may be the earliest importation and use of cocoa north of where it is grown. Cacao is now processed into chocolate, but the Mayans and (later) the Chacoans may have consumed a bitter beverage. More...
