Switchgrass, (Panicum anceps) is a native, warm season perennial and a member of the grass family. This grass grows from 2 to 4 feet tall. The seedhead is 6 to 14 inches long. Vegetative growth begins in February and is usually completed by May or June. It prefers moist to wet soil and can often be found near wetlands. Deer enjoy grazing on Switchgrass, and birds eat the seeds.
