Pink Muhly Grass (Muhlenbergia capillaris) is a perennial grass that grows up to 3 feet tall. It has long, feathery seed heads that can be about half the length of the entire plant. The seed heads are a purple-pink color and add a very attractive purple haze to landscapes. Muhly Grass can grow in a variety of soil, moisture, and light conditions. It can grow in full sun to partial shade, moist to dry conditions, and acidic to alkaline soils. While it is often found in coastal situations, it can also be found in wet prairies, savannas, and the outer edges of marshes, and also in well drained upland pine forests. It is easy to grow Muhly Grass from seed or from splitting existing clumps.
