Advisory Notice #2 for Hurricane Arthur

HARKERS ISLAND, NC – The National Park Service (NPS) has completed the evacuation of Cape Lookout National Seashore in preparation for Hurricane Arthur. The storm continues to track towards Cape Lookout National Seashore. As of 5pm Wednesday, July 2, Cape Lookout National Seashore was closed to the public until further notice. Superintendent Pat Kenney stated, "We appreciate the cooperation we have received in evacuating the park in preparation of the storm. We anticipate the weather to deteriorate today and request that the public respect the closure."

According to Superintendent Kenney, "our goal is to reopen as soon as possible following the storm, but prior to opening we must ensure that it is safe for the visitors, the facilities are operational and resources of the park are protected." Once it is safe for staff to access the islands, the National Park Service will complete an assessment of the impact of the storm. The public should not access the park until the NPS officially notifies the public that the park is open again.
