School Field Trips to Bodie Island Lighthouse

The Bodie Island Light Station contains the lighthouse and a visitor center/bookstore.

The Bodie Island Light Station does not offer ranger-led programs.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse is open for tours the third Friday in April to Columbus Day (in October). There is a fee for climbing the lighthouse-- there is no fee waiver.

For school groups not climbing the lighthouse, a visit generally lasts 30 minutes.

If your school group climbs the light house, chaperones are required to accompany students for the entire lighthouse climb. Chaperone to student ratios are: 1:10 for elementary and middle school; 1:21 for high school students.

Due to tour limitations, there is no educational fee waiver offered for the Bodie Island Lighthouse. For tour information click Bodie Island Lighthouse tours.

Depending on available tour spots, the approximate time it could take your students to climb and exit the lighthouse is:

50 participants 3 hours
80 participants 4 hours 15 min.
150 participants 7 hours 45 min.
