Meeting Scheduled April 27 for Cape Cod National Seashore Advisory Commission Dune Shack Subcommittee

Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent George Price has announced that the next meeting of the Dune Shack Subcommittee of the Cape Cod National Seashore Advisory Commission will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies, 5 Holway Avenue, Provincetown.

The subcommittee’s task is to develop a set of recommendations to the Cape Cod National Seashore’s Advisory Commission on the establishment of a Dune Shack District Preservation and Use Plan/Environmental Assessment. The dune shack historic district is located in the national seashore along the backshore of Provincetown and Truro. A short public comment period will be provided.

Today, a dedicated group of families, individuals and non-profits carry on a unique heritage of art, reflection, and nature study at the dune shacks in Provincetown and Truro. A recent ethnographic study entitled, “Dwelling in the Dunes”, documents the people who live there today.
