Join Cape Cod National Seashore Ranger Programs During February Vacation Period

Nature walks, a tour of a whaling captain's home, a walk focusing on winter birds, and a showing of the Oscar-winning animated adventure movie Finding Nemo are among the programs being offered by Cape Cod National Seashore staff between February 16 and 28. Many programs are geared towards families who live on Cape Cod or are visiting during the February vacation period. All programs are free, and many occur at Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham. Some outdoor programs are weather-dependent. Call ahead to 508-255-3421, ext. 0 if weather is inclement for information on cancelled or alternative programs.

Saturday, February 16:

Tour: Captain Penniman House-A Whaling Family's Story, 11:00 AM-12:00 noon. By reservation only, 508-255-3421, ext. 0.

Sunday, February 17:

Film: Finding Nemo, 1:30 PM, Salt Pond Visitor Center

Tuesday, February 19:

Walk: Winter Bird Wonderland, 10:00 AM, up to 2 hours. Salt Pond Visitor Center

Wednesday, February 20:

Walk: Stormy Nights: Examining Shipwrecks on Cape Cod, 1:30-2:15 PM, ½ mile, if weather permits, Coast Guard Beach parking lot, Eastham.

Friday, February 22:

Activity: Ocean Futures, 1:30-2:30 PM. Includes a short presentation, activities and games to learn about some threats our oceans are facing. Presented by Jessie Mechling of Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies, Salt Pond Visitor Center.

Sunday, February 24:

Film: Titanic 1:30 PM, The 1997 production and winner of 11 Oscars. Salt Pond Visitor Center

Activity tables will be set up at the Salt Pond Visitor Center 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM on the following days: Saturdays, February 16 and 23, Monday, February 18, Tuesday February 26, and Thursday, February 28.

If you go: Salt Pond Visitor Center is located at the intersection of Route 6 and Nauset Road in Eastham and is open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.The center includes a lobby with expansive views of Salt Pond, Nauset Marsh, and the Atlantic; a museum featuring the park's natural and cultural stories; staff to assist with trip planning; and a store with books, maps, puzzles, games, apparel, and more. There are short films shown throughout the day. The Buttonbush and Nauset Marsh Trails, and the Nauset Bike Trail are located nearby.
