As the most visited unit of America's National Park System, the Blue Ridge Parkway always seems to be "in the news."  The road meanders through twenty-nine counties and four US National Forests in western North Carolina and Virginia, and the Parkway traveler contributes tremendously to the economy of both states. There are twenty six tunnels on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but only one in Virginia? This is primarily because the North Carolina mountains are more rugged that those in Virginia.
