Jeannine McElveen who has served most recently as the Administrative Officer at Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming, has been selected as the new Administrative Officer at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.

Jeannine McElveen who has served most recently as the Administrative Officer at Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming, has been selected as the new Administrative Officer at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.

According to the announcement by Big South Fork Superintendent Reed Detring, McElveen will assume the duties of her new position in June of this year. Detring stated, “We are looking forward to Mrs. McElveen coming to Big South Fork and becoming both part of the park and the community.”

Upon receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University McElveen taught for a number of years with school systems in both Michigan and Maryland.

McElveen began her career with the National Park Service in 1983 at Assateague Island National Seashore as a fee collection officer. McElveen later worked at a number of National Park Service units including Harpers Ferry Center, John Day Fossil Beds and Death Valley before assuming her current position of Administrative Officer at Devils Tower National Monument in 2004.

McElveen will be traveling to Big South Fork NRRA with her husband Scot to serve as the Administrative Officer filling a position left vacant when Cathy Losher transferred to Gulf Island National Seashore last year.
