Domesticated turkeys were raised for their feathers and meat.

The Ancestral Pueblo people had domesticated dogs and turkeys. The dogs were companions, and turkeys were valued for food and feathers. The feathers, twisted with yucca fibers, were woven into warm blankets.

Did You Know?

Tyuonyi Pueblo

It is estimated that Tyuonyi Pueblo had 400 rooms but only 100 people lived there. Many of the rooms were used mostly for storage of food and pens for turkeys.
