Adams Folger Key
This online exhibit features objects from the museum collection from Alcatraz Island. It features photographs and archived objects from when Alcatraz was a U.S. Army fort and military prison (1859 -1934), a federal penitentiary (1934 –1963), and items from the American Indian occupation (1969–1971) by Indians of All Tribes. After incubation lasting four weeks, a gull chick breaks out of its egg without assistance from its parents. At hatching, the chick is fully covered with down and is soon able to open its eyes and stand up to walk about the nest.
