    Tickets for Alcatraz frequently sell out in advance, especially around holidays and weekends. Night tour tickets sell out even sooner, as much as a month or more in advance. Order your tickets up to 90 days in advance to avoid disappointment. More »

Access to Alcatraz is by ferry service operated by Alcatraz Cruises, LLC, a concession of the National Park Service. No private craft can dock at Alcatraz Island.

There is no separate entrance fee for the island - park passes do not apply to the charge for the ferry service.

To purchase tickets in advance (strongly recommended as Alcatraz frequently sells out) contact Alcatraz Cruises, their website is www.alcatrazcruises.com. The Alcatraz ferry departs from Pier 33, located on The Embarcadero near the intersection of Bay Street.


Did You Know?

Original Alcatraz Lighthouse

The first West Coast lighthouse, activated in 1854 on Alcatraz Island, was rendered obsolete in the early 1900s when the U.S. Army built a new cellhouse blocking the lights view of the Golden Gate.
