Southside Trail Ruins Walking Tour

New River Gorge National Park & Preserve

  • 4 - 8 hours
  • 7 tour stops

The Southside trail follows the abandoned southside branch of the C & O railway line that previously bordered the New River. Here use to be several mining towns and operations, including Brooklyn, Red Ash, and Rush Run. This self-guided tour marks the ruinous structures of old houses, stores, and mining fabrications. Once bustling with people, these places now sit abandoned, deteriorating from both man-made vandalism and the natural impact of the environment. Please take care not to enter any of the ruins.
