A Day and a Night at Great Sand Dunes

Plan to explore the dunes in the morning to avoid high temperatures, wind and storms. Hike, sandboard/sand sled, and splash in Medano Creek (seasonal in spring). In the afternoon, hike Montville Nature Trail or Mosca Pass Trail to enjoy forest and birds. Attend a ranger program if available during your visit. After dark, enjoy bright moonlight on the dunes, or countless stars on a moonless night. The Milky Way is visible on clear, moonless nights on summer and fall evenings.
