Victorian Interlude

Victorian Interlude is a 4th grade Social Studies curriculum based program developed to introduce classes of 30 students or less to life during the late Victorian period. The day begins with a house tour and then a break for lunch. The program continues in the afternoon when the class is divided up into groups of 5 - 7 students. Each group participates in a different hands-on activity. These include quilting, stenciling, herbs and games. By actually giving the child an opportunity to "do" these various activities, it enhances their knowledge and appreciation of that particular time period. The program concludes with the History Mystery activity.

Due to the fact that this is an all-day program, students should bring a bag lunch and drink.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

  • Introductory audio-visual program
  • Tour of the house
  • Lunch
  • Hands-on activity
  • History Mystery

If the students wish to go to the gift shop, we will have someone to staff it during the lunch break only. Opening it to the students at other times interferes with scheduled activities.

Fourth grade only. Program length: 3-4 hours. Fee - $75.00 per session. All group tours are by reservation only.

Groups should bring an absolute minimum of four chaperones to allow for proper supervision during small group activities. Up to ten adults are free of charge.

Please divide your class into groups for the small-group activity prior to your visit. A sign-up sheet will be mailed with your confirmation, or may be downloaded here. Please keep in mind that we are only able to offer this program through the cooperation of many dedicated volunteers. Although we try very hard to adhere to the activities that were initially offered to your class, occasionally one may need to be changed or canceled based on the availability of our volunteers. Please return the sign-up sheet to us on the day of your tour.
