For those looking for the genuine camping experience, Catoctin Mountain has the Owens Creek campground as well as the Poplar Grove Campground which is open to adult-supervised, organized youth groups whose members are under age 18. The park also has 2 wilderness shelters which are also reservation-only.

Adirondack Shelters
The Adirondack Shelters are available year-round. The shelters are located near the northern most point of the park. They are three-sided shelters - similar to those found on the Appalachian Trail.
Poplar Grove Youth Camp Site
Organized Youth Group Tent Camping. There are three sites within Poplar Grove. Each site accommodates up to 25 persons. Groups share pit toilets, water and a pavilion. Each site has picnic tables, grills and a fire circle. Groups provide all personal convenience items, including toilet paper. For parking, each site accommodates one vehicle and one utility trailer.
