The Great Hall

Ellis Island was the largest immigration station in the United States, and was extremely active during the years of 1892-1924 when immigrants arrived by steamship. Touring Ellis Island can be a half day visit beyond your time spent at the Statue of Liberty. There are three floors of galleries, a 35-minute film, a guided 'south-side' tour of the hospital complex, two research libraries, audio guides, ranger tours, ruins of an old fort, and even a children's program for those between the ages of 8-12. No less than a 1-hour tour should be anticipated during your visit. Refreshments and souvenirs are available for purchase on the island.

A wheelchair ramp is accessible at the entrance to the building. Elevators provide access to the three floors of exhibits.

All participants on the Hard Hat Tour must be at least 13 years of age, and should expect to be on their feet for 90 minutes.
