Ride Your Bike at Fort McHenry

NPS
The peninsula at Fort McHenry provides a beautiful backdrop for a bike ride. The park's memorial groves of trees allow for easy access to shade while the calm waters of the Patapsco River offer a nice breeze and waterfront views. The best way to enjoy a bike ride in the park is to "Know Before You Go" for a safe and fun way to visit. Please keep these items in mind while riding your bike at Fort McHenry:
- The speed limit is 10 MPH. The paths at Fort McHenry are shared between bike riders and pedestrians. For everyone's safety, cyclists must observe the 10 MPH speed limit.
- Keep bikes on paved pathways. Bike treads can tear up park lawns and gardens. Help keep the park beautiful by sticking to the paved seawall trail or park roads.
- Know where you can go. Bikes are not allowed within the historic zone or park buildings. If you ride your bike in the park and would like to enter buildings or the historic zone, make sure to lock up you bike then enter on foot.
- Know where to lock your bike. Fort McHenry has bike racks available for visitors to safely lock up their bikes. These bike racks are located near the park's main parking lot. Bikes, however, should not be locked up on park benches, fences, signposts, etc. The National Park Service is not responsible for any lost or stolen bikes in the park, though if you feel that your property has been stolen, please contact the park law enforcement.
