Explore a variety of habitats along this trail. From sagebrush flats to wooded hillsides, the moderate to strenuous Buckhorn Trail provides views of interesting geologic features and park wildlife such as prairie dogs.

4.6 mile (7.4 km); to Oxbow Overlook – remote, steep terrain


Enjoy the stunning views that the scenic drive provides, but then explore the river valley itself. Prepare for steep climbs in and out of the river

10.4 mile (16.7 km); to Oxbow Overlook – steep terrain, river crossings


For a longer adventure in the river valley, venture on the South Achenbach Trail. Along with the steep climbs of the North Achenbach Trail, this trail includes two river crossing as well (check with the Visitor Center for current river depths).
