Thing to Do
Hunting in City of Rocks and Castle Rocks

City of Rocks National Reserve was formed in part to preserve traditional uses of the land. It is one of few National Park System units that allows hunting. State and federal land around the Reserve, such as Castle Rocks State Park, Sawtooth National Forest, and BLM, are also open to hunting.
Hunters should take note of the following:
- Shooting from a public highway or discharging any firearm from or across a public highway, campsite, parking lot, building structure, or access road is prohibited.
- Field dressing or disposing of animal waste in campsites or garbage cans is prohibited.
- Hunters may use motorized vehicles only on established and authorized roadways. Off‐road travel by ATV, OHV, UTV, etc. is prohibited.
- Over 4,000 acres of private property is located within City of Rocks National Reserve boundary; know where you are and respect private property rights.
For Idaho hunting regulations and seasons (especially for Unit 55), visit the Idaho Fish and Game website.
