Hike to Avalanche Lake

A first dusting of snow decorates the rocky peaks above the fall colors of the mountain lake basin.
Avalanche Lake is a great hike in the summer and early fall.

The Avalanche Lake Trailhead is at the same general location as the Avalanche Campground and the Avalanche Picnic area. All are located along Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Accessibility Information
The first half mile of the trail to Avalanche Lake is the wheelchair-accessible nature trail called the Trail of the Cedars. Beyond that, the trail becomes steeper, rocky, and more challenging.
