Thing to Do
Genealogy Research

NPS Photo
Are you interested in your own genealogy? Do you have an ancestor that may have fought in the Civil War? At Kennesaw Mountain, the rangers and volunteers have access to extensive libraries, archives, and battle maps. If you think that your ancestor may have been involved in the War Between the States, we can help you to get more information and perspective through these resources. If we can show that they fought here, we could even direct you to the general area of where they might have been.
For basic requests, the rangers can help you at the front desk. For more in-depth research requests, a formal request must be made through our website. Ask a ranger how!

Duration
10-30 Minutes
Depending on the availability of materials and how in depth you are wanting to go, this research could last a few minutes. If you already have some of the basic information (confirmation that they were here, military designation and/or unit information) then locating the general area takes a matter of minutes. If you are looking for more in depth information, first hand accounts, and don't know whether they faught here or not, the process could take longer.
It also depends on how busy the front desk area is and if we have to attend to other customers.
