Stop by the Ice House to learn about the island's history

Make sure you make a stop at the Ice House Museum at the Dungeness dock area. Inside you will learn about the history of the island through photographs and other displays. The building itself is a part of history. Built by the Carnegie family in the early 1900’s, this building was constructed like a giant cooler, designed to store large blocks of ice transported from New England.  

There are restrooms and a water filling station on the east side of this building. During the summer months, there is a air conditioned “cooling room” that will be open for visitors to escape the heat.

Pets are not allowed on the ferry, but are allowed on private boats. They must be leashed at all times. Please pick up after your pet and pack out the waste.

All visitors 16 or older must pay the park entry fee or have an America the Beautiful pass with them. Fees can be paid on the island at self-pay stations located at each dock or in person at the Mainland Visitor Center. You may also pay your entrance fee in advance online at www.pay.gov.

The Ice Hose Museum is open from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Accessibility Information

The Ice House is accessible to wheelchairs on the north side entrance. The restrooms are also wheelchair accessible. The ground around the musuem is sand and grass.
