Discovering Life at Fort Scott

Come join staff and volunteers at Fort Scott as they bring the 1840s to life by dressing in period clothing. At select times during the summer, the site features demonstrations such as historic cooking, artillery drills, and flag retreat ceremonies. You can also see costumed interpreters portraying laundresses, soldiers, surgeons, and other residents of Fort Scott in the 1840s

The duration of the activity is up to the visitor. it depends on how long they want to interact at each station. Living history demonstrations range from fifteen minutes to thirty minutes depending on the activity. Contacts at stations are generally five to ten minutes in duration.

Accessibility Information
Most of the living history activities take place on the first floors of buildings or on the parade ground and are accessible to the mobility impaired. Service animals are welcome at all of these activities. We ask that they be on a leash.
