When it comes to birding, Spring Canyon Wetlands is the place to see and hear birds. There are over 300 species of birds migrating in and out of Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. Water plays an important part in the bird populations of Texas. Varying habitats at Lake Meredith provide shelter, food, and nesting opportunities for birds. 

The best opportunities for waterfowl and bald eagles are during the winter. Wild Turkey, Northern Flickers, Red-tailed Hawks, and Rufous-crowned Sparrows are permanent residents. Red-headed Woodpeckers are summer residents and Mountain Bluebirds and American Tree Sparrows are present only during the winter.

The Spring Canyon birding area has a boardwalk and dock devoted to birdwatching. Bring your binoculars, field guide, nature journal, and lawn chair. Happy Birding!

Spring Canyon Birdwalk is located in the Wetlands of Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. It is a good place to view more than 300 birds migrating in and out of this area during the year. There is a long boardwalk leading to a deck where you can set up to watch the birds.
