Big Trees Trail

View massive sequoias on the Big Trees Trail.

Big Trees Trail circles Round Meadow in a 0.7-mile loop. It is flat, paved, and has benches along the way. Informational displays offer insight into what you are experiencing. Watch for yellow-bellied marmots, bears, and other wildlife and read informational displays about the unique ecosystem of meadows and sequoias. After taking this trail, consider walking the Hazelwood Meadow Trail on the other side of the road; it leads through another part of the sequoia grove.

Safety

• Elevation changes will be more difficult at higher altitude. Take breaks and drink plenty of water. Bears are common to see in meadows, especially in the spring and early summer. Learn what to do if you encounter a bear in the parks.

Location

• This trailhead starts just 0.3 mi from the Giant Forest Museum. Visitors should park across from the Museum, then follow signs to the trailhead.

Accessibility Information

Parking is available in a small lot at the trailhead for people with disability placards. If you don't have a placard but need to park closer to the trailhead, temporary placards are available at visitor centers. In winter when roads are snowy, the trailhead parking area is open to all. The trail itself is completely paved with little to no elevation change.
