Become a Junior Ranger at Sunset Crater Volcano
Explore Sunset Crater Volcano and learn about geology, wildlife, starry skies and how you can help us protect national parks. Pick up a Jr. Ranger activity booklet at any of the Flagstaff Area National Monuments and complete at least six activities of your choice to earn a badge. Your booklet can be turned in at the visitor center for Sunset Crater Volcano, Wupatki, or Walnut Canyon to receive your badge. Pick up the booklets for the other two monuments to get all three badges!

Junior Ranger Program
The Sunset Crater Volcano Jr. Ranger booklet is full of fun and educational activities to help you explore your national park. Activities are organized by engagement levels instead of age groups so Jr. Rangers of any age or ability can choose the activities that are best for them. Complete at least six activities to become a Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument Jr. Ranger and earn your badge.

We welcome Jr. Rangers of any age. Younger Jr. Rangers can work with an adult to finish their activities.
Pets Allowed
Yes with Restrictions
Becuase monument resources are fragile, pets are only allowed on certain trails. ADA service animals are welcome inside monument buildings and on trails. Pets are allowed on the paved portion of the Lava Flow Trail, on U.S. Forest Service lands surrounding the monument, and on any paved road or parking lot. Pets are not permitted on the A'a Trail, Bonito Vista Trail, Lenox Crater Trail, the unpaved outer loop of the Lava Flow Trail, or the portion of the Lava's Edge Trail within the monument.

The booklet and badge are completely free. Regular park fees apply for visiting the monument.
