Today, few hints of life in New Philadelphia remain above ground. But you can peek into the past through your mobile device!
Bring the town to life with the New Philadelphia Association’s self-guided augmented reality app. The augmented reality app guides you along a quarter-mile trail to 11 stops. Using the app, point your mobile device’s camera at the tour stop markers. Animated buildings and people will appear on the landscape in front of you.
Audio narrations share stories about town founders Free Frank and Lucy McWorter. They explore how residents fought against slavery. And how they lived together in a multicultural community during a time of extreme racial turmoil.
Several benches also provide walkers with spots to take a break and view the landscape. The benches are on raised concrete blocks.
How to start:
Begin at the Information Kiosk. Download the free New Philadelphia AR App. Public WiFi is provided by the New Philadelphia Association. The WiFi password is Frank1836.
Open the app to begin the tour. The trail begins at the south end of the parking lot.

- The 1/4-mile walking trail is a level natural surface with mown grass. It is uneven and sometimes muddy in places.
- The augmented reality tour is accessed through a mobile device. Tour videos include audio narration. They do not include audio description at this time.
- Tour videos do not include captions. However, text transcripts of the audio narration are posted on each tour stop marker.
